Basic Education Assessment System (Saeb)
The Basic Education Assessment System (Saeb) is a set of large-scale external assessments that allows Inep to conduct a diagnosis of Brazilian basic education and factors that may interfere with student performance. Since 1995, the biennial assessment has sought to provide an overview of Basic Education and has undergone some methodological changes to improve it. Together with other indicators, the SAEB grades structure the grade of the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb). Through tests and questionnaires, applied every two years in the public network and in a sample of the private network, the Saeb reflects the levels of learning demonstrated by the assessed students, explaining these results based on a series of contextual information. It assesses the grades: 5th grade, 9th grade and 3rd grade of high school. In 2019, it has the 2nd year of E.F. In 2021, a new cut was added, a separation between capital and non-capital. The Database decided not to include this cut for better compatibility with previous years.
